TREATMENT

Gummy Smile

Treatment Overview

A gummy smile is when the smile shows excessive gum line. Sometimes this can be correct through an orthodontist or even simple lip fillers. Our treatment involves Botox.

Why use Gummy Smile Treatment?

Why use Botox to treat a gummy smile?

Botox is non invasive and effective at reducing wrinkles and lines, and can also be adjusted depending on what results your require. It also causes little discomfort, a less so with repeat treatment. Results are natural and can be seen within 1-3 days.

Botox numbs the nerve endings in your skin, preventing certain targeted muscles from working. It can also be used to treat wrinkles and signs of ageing. Using botox is non invasive and effective. The treatment for a gummy smile works by stopping the muscles in your upper lip from lifting upwards when you smile.

What goes on at my appointment?

After your initial consultation with us you’ll be offered your appointment with one of our qualified injectors.

The injector will numb the area and inform of you of any potential side effects and what to expect during your treatment and afterwards.

We will then inject botox into the area and it will begin to work immediately and you’ll see results in 1-3 days and last for 6 months until the nerve endings begin to return.

FAQS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Injections of muscle relaxants are the most simple treatment of gummy smile.

Here at SD Aesthetics we use muscle relaxing injections are performed to relax the muscles which lift the upper lip. This will cause the upper lip to disguise the “gumminess” of the smile.

Most patients will have treatments every 3-4 months which can be discussed after your treatment with SD Aesthetics.

There may be bruising at the injection site. If there is an underdose, then the gummy smile will only be partially corrected and a second treatment will be required. The dose will be adjusted on subsequent treatments. If there is an overdose, the cutaneous upper lip (the skin between the bottom of your nose and your pink lip), may be overly elongated, and the patients speaking, eating and smiling may be affected. These side effects are uncommon, because conservative doses should always be used in first treatments.
